Review: Hot Tub Time Machine

The first time I saw a preview for this movie, I have to be honest, my first
thoughts were, “Ooh John Cusack! Was that George McFly? Hey, the guy from the office! Leg warmers?” In true 80’s fashion, director Steve Pink combines fond eighties movie memories from neon colored everything to a hilarious plot that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The story of a crazy trip back in time brought on by booze, excess, and a bout of early mid-life crises, leaves Adam (John Cusack) and friends reliving their glory days in order to find their way back to the future (with a little help from the all too experienced Crispin Glover.) If you remember the eighties like they were yesterday, you’ll have to see this one twice to catch everything you missed while laughing. Funny one-liners and a plot about as crazy and wild as any original 80’s movie easily makes the funniest film so far in 2010. So throw that mix tape in the deck, grab a 6 pack of Bartles & Jaymes and get ready to take a trip in the hot tub! This movie is definitely a tribute to the whole 80’s genre, reminding us all just how much fun (and ridiculous) that decade was.
This isn’t exactly one for the kiddos as this movie is rated R due to mature content (lots of boobs, drugs, and cussing, just more reasons to go see it). Opens in theaters today.
