Things to see, things we saw. In Austin, there’s always something to do.

About Us

Our mission at SeeSaw Austin is to provide both Austinites and visitors current information about things that are new, fun, and relevant to their interests. We want to reach out to every type of person, and let them all know that they have a place here, with us. Most of our content includes event previews, or things for you to “see,” and also includes plenty of reviews and post-event coverage-things that we “saw.” Our site also focuses greatly on the many wonderful non-profit organizations that Austin calls home, as we think that they deserve more love and attention than what they already receive.
We hope you have fun playing with us!

Editor in Chief/Owner: Editor-in-Chief, Laurie Lyons, moved to Austin in 1997 to pursue a degree in Liberal Arts at the University of Texas. When she walked away from the 40 acres with a BA in American Studies and a full-time job with a local non-profit, she saw absolutely no reason to leave Austin. When not attempting to feed, cuddle with, and wrangle the four dogs and a cat she shares a home with, you can find her going out to almost every type of event imaginable, supporting all of her favorite local DJs, brunching it up somewhere, attempting to kiss strangers’ pugs, and going to movies at Alamo Drafthouse. That is, if she can do all of those things while completing her homework for the New Media Journalism Master of Arts program at Full Sail University to pursue a career and follow her passion for journalism.

She loves the internets, so find her iPhone pics and 140 character hilarity on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram (tipsytexter), Foursquare, and if you want to get real fancy, LinkedIn. Go ahead and email her right here.

Amber Kokas is  a  bonafide Southern girl, raised in both Texas and Louisiana, who is  kinda fabulous and a little goofy, too.  After graduating from High School in Austin, she wanted to spread her wings and pursue  dreams in Interior Design, and you’d better believe that Southern girl showed those Chi-Town natives what spicy is all about!  While in college her obsession and talent in all things art blossomed as she  tapped into a love of writing, thanks to one of the best English professors, EVER. She found it to be just another one of  many passions (and she has a lot).  After earning a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts, she moved back to Austin to get busy-literally!  If you don’t find her shopping for the newest fashions (down SoCo of course!) you can find her reading about them in one of my gazillion fashion magazines! Really, she might possibly have hoarding tendencies with fashion mags! You’ll always find her dancing her booty off at any local show around town, and lets face it, that girl CAN dance!  And somehow in between all the madness that is Amber, she is beautifying lovely ladies with her MAD make-up skills (self-taught from magazines, of course!).  With both shoes and tattoos as an undying weaknesses,  she’s got the ear for music, the eye for fashion, and the rhythm for dancing. Art just seems to come natural to her, and she wouldn’t have it any other way!   For  her, SASSY is an understatement.  You can see for yourself by following her on Twitter @Cajunsweetie (The name says it all!)

Madison Cleo, A transplant from New Mexico who brings a certain enchantment to Austin from her homelands. She writes best about music, most about Austin events, and often while at the bar. Madison’s life motto, “Never say no”, keeps her immersed in local culture and helps her Bucket List stay short. Follow her witticisms here, stalk her daily life here, and check out her other fam here.

Megan Russell: My passion is myself.  I love anything that has to do with me, which I can turn into pretty much anything.  That’s why I write, to make you think what I have to say is important (thereby tricking you into thinking I’m just as important).  A trait I learned so well while getting my BA in English at the University of Kansas: ROCK CHALK!  I’m a huge health nut and love working out (gyms have lots of mirrors) and can be found hanging out at various Gold’s Gyms, bootcamps, yoga studios or flying trapeze classes around Austin.  As a health conscious person, I am also a vegan.  I started my journey to veganism (compassion, think holier-than-thou) in 2004 when a guy I liked told me vegetarians tasted better (they do).  After a 4 year stint on the veggie wagon I hopped aboard the even more pretentious and far more sexual vegan wagon and have been better than you ever since.

I’m Rachel…some people call me the space cowboy. Some call me RaePow…it really depend on if i’m hanging out with the Steve Miller Band or my friends.I moved to Austin a few months ago just when SXSW was starting, and dove head first into the Austin scene, managing to get my sea legs at some great shows while wandering the city. I’ve loved every minute of my time here, meeting some awesome people and having some great experiences. Born and raised in the greater DC metro area, I feel like I was always meant to get to Austin at some point. Despite overcoming the challenges of accepting how nice everyone here is, and learning to pick and choose between all the fun things going on all the time, I’ve been able to settle in quite nicely. I love books, music, parties, shows, animals, and a good scotch. I particularly enjoy writing about all of these things, and helping other people find fun and awesome things to do in Austin. Keep up with me as I learn a new city and make Austin my home!
