About Us
Our mission at SeeSaw Austin is to provide both Austinites and visitors current information about things that are new, fun, and relevant to their interests. We want to reach out to every type of person, and let them all know that they have a place here, with us. Most of our content includes event previews, or things for you to “see,” and also includes plenty of reviews and post-event coverage-things that we “saw.” Our site also focuses greatly on the many wonderful non-profit organizations that Austin calls home, as we think that they deserve more love and attention than what they already receive.
We hope you have fun playing with us!

Editor in Chief/Owner: Laurie Lyons moved to Austin in 1997 to pursue some sort of degree in Liberal Arts at UT. When she walked away from the 40 Acres with a BA in American Studies and a full-time job at Foundation Communities, a local affordable housing organization, she saw absolutely no reason to leave Austin. When not attempting to feed, cuddle with, and wrangle three dogs and a cat at home, you can find her going out to almost every event imaginable, stalking all of her favorite local DJs, brunching it up somewhere, attempting to kiss strangers’ pugs, going to movies at Alamo Drafthouse (preferably ones in 3D), and volunteering with Austin Pets Alive! and the Austin No Kill Coalition. She has a few unnatural affections, including the aforementioned pugs, churros, board games, Dr. Drew, watches, tattoos, and cute bartenders. If you feel so compelled, you can follow her on Twitter: @tipsytexter.
Full time promo manager for FOX 7 Austin by daylight, part time celebrity stalker by limelight, internationally known as Dani Dudek (known to rock the microphone as Fancy Pants), she maintains control of all things gossip and possesses a tongue like a whip, so, watch out! Her prowess around celebrity facts is quite impressive as there is no need for an iPhone app to rapidly research when in her presence. She is the walking talking “Small Wonder” equivalent of celebrity Shazam. Adding to her eccentric energy is her adoration of photography, passion for all things local (78704 represent!), worship of thrift stores, uncanny ability to purchase designer shoes (which are rarely worn but look pretty in her closet) at rock bottom prices, high opinion of sweat bands, well known hatred of “joutfits”, eternal devotion to Wii Cheer, ability to snap a killer self portrait no matter how dim the light and appreciation for the remedial challenges that evolve from scrabble, beer pong and after hours 90210 Twister (formally known as “Entangle”) tourneys. As illustrated by the activities listed, Fancy lives the Dick Clark style of life as the world’s oldest teenager, though she realizes that feeling of youth is fleeting. To hold on to her child-like wonder, she helps grant wishes around Central Texas with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. All in all, Fancy Pants is the nicest bitch you’ll ever meet and she claims to reign on a pedestal of awesomeness. That pedestal often doubles as a VIP section where all – OK, let’s be honest – SOME are welcome to join. Read more of her snark at www.ATXgossip.com and follow her on twitter @fancypantsATX.
Kathy Flores hails from Dallas, and has been writing on and off for about 15 years. Her love of writing began in high school with her first Journalism class, and after that she had the opportunity to hone her writing skills at the University of Texas. The realization that she has the to power to influence others with just a few words (you just wait…), combined with a fervent love of Austin, TX (and the Hill Country in general), plus a great job working with crazy teens at Foundation Communities, all combined to bring her here today, writing for the newest Austin blog hotspot…SeeSaw Austin. See ya around, Austin!
Amber Kokas is a bonafide Southern girl, raised in both Texas and Louisiana, who is kinda fabulous and a little goofy, too. After graduating from High School in Austin, she wanted to spread her wings and pursue dreams in Interior Design, and you’d better believe that Southern girl showed those Chi-Town natives what spicy is all about! While in college her obsession and talent in all things art blossomed as she tapped into a love of writing, thanks to one of the best English professors, EVER. She found it to be just another one of many passions (and she has a lot). After earning a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts, she moved back to Austin to get busy-literally! If you don’t find her shopping for the newest fashions (down SoCo of course!) you can find her reading about them in one of my gazillion fashion magazines! Really, she might possibly have hoarding tendencies with fashion mags! You’ll always find her dancing her booty off at any local show around town, and lets face it, that girl CAN dance! And somehow in between all the madness that is Amber, she is beautifying lovely ladies with her MAD make-up skills (self-taught from magazines, of course!). With both shoes and tattoos as an undying weaknesses, she’s got the ear for music, the eye for fashion, and the rhythm for dancing. Art just seems to come natural to her, and she wouldn’t have it any other way! For her, SASSY is an understatement. You can see for yourself by following her on Twitter @Cajunsweetie (The name says it all!)
Katie Schnack is a recovering TV news producer, 2 cat-owning espresso and queso-obsessed recent Austin transplant. Hailing from the great north land of Minnesota, (where she has a cabin with no running water), she had a brief stint in South Florida to get her journalism degree, and has since moved to ATX with her hubby, a super studly actor. Working on getting her book published, starting a freelance writing career, and figuring out her life takes up most of her time.
